Hans was lost when the FG-1A Corsair he was piloting crashed near St. Augustine, Florida, on November 16, 1945.

Hans was born in Connecticut. In 1938, he graduated from Wilson Borough High School, Allentown, Pennsylvania, and then attended Penn State for two years.
In 1930, his father Ernest was an engineer in a radio factory in Philadelphia. His mother was Esther, sister Lilly, and brother Merwin. In 1935, the family lived in Vineland, New Jersey; and in 1940, Hans was at State College in Pennsylvania.
He is buried in Connecticut.

He was a member of — or flying an airplane belonging to — “MF OTU.”1 Unsure exactly what it stands for; suspect it is “Marine Fighter Operational Test Unit” or “Operational Tactics Unit.”
