Charles was lost on July 31, 1957 at China Lake, CA, when his “AD-6 Skyraider crashed on Charley Range.”

Charles’ jet fighter plunged to the earth in a vertical dive while he was making an “over the shoulder” bombing maneuver. He was attached to Attack Squadron 115 based at Miramar Naval Air Station at San Diego. He was buried in the National Cemetery in San Francisco.
His mother Hazel was a secretary for the Red Cross; his sisters were Jean and Ann.
His father Charles, a proprietor of painting supplies, died in 1948.
He was survived by his wife Nancy Ione (Davenport) and his mother. Nancy gave birth to their daughter around October 27, 1957.
