Loss
Carl was lost on February 9, 1960 when his A4D-2 crashed “directly in front of1” USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA 42) immediately after being catapulted. He was a member of Attack Squadron (VA) 172.

Carl graduated from the Oklahoma Military Academy in 1953.
He married Janet Elizabeth Shaw in the Naval Academy chapel after graduation.
In November 1958, Carl was a Navy pilot at Corpus Christi.
He was survived by his 21-month old son Carl, III, and his mother Lorraine of San Antonio.
Carl has a memory marker in Arlington National Cemetery. His wife later married a classmate of his, William Finn.
His father was twice awarded the Silver Star; once in WWII and once in Korea.
