Bill was lost when his TV-2 training plane crashed near Belton, Missouri, on March 27, 1957. He was the instructor pilot; the student was also killed.

William was named third principal to the Naval Academy by Senator Ed C. Johnson (D-Colo.) in September 1946. William registered for the draft in December, 1946; he was a student, 5’10”, 155 lbs., with blue eyes and brown hair. He graduated from Central High School in Pueblo in 1947.
Bill is buried in Colorado. His mother, wife, and son, William, survived him; his wife was 8 months pregnant with their daughter, Anne. (Information from Anne via email on February 5, 2018.) His wife remarried and passed away in 2015.
