RICHARD PAUL WILLIAMS

Rick, a very determined individual, came to the Naval Academy with many purposes in mind. Some of his interests were travel, scuba diving, cars, music and of course, girls. His summers away from the Academy saw him visiting most of Europe, Canada, Mexico and the United States. In academics Rick was not a slash but was a persevering person who will surely succeed in becoming a fine Naval Officer. After graduation, Navy line looks mighty fine to him. His extracurricular activities included the Masqueraders, the Musical Club shows, the Scuba Club and Foreign Relations Club. In the sports department, Rick played soccer, field ball and tried Battalion lacrosse as well. On the weekends you could usually find him in a huddle of company mates out on Dewey Field. Such varied talents point to a long and successful career.

Loss

Richard was lost on June 30, 1969 when the aircraft he was aboard crashed at Kingsville, Texas.

From the November 1969 issue of Shipmate:

Lt. Richard P. Williams, USN, died 30 June at Kingsville, Tex., as the result of an aircraft accident. Services were held at the Naval Training Base at Kingsville, followed by interment in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, San Diego, Calif.

Lt. Williams, born in Brownwood, Tex., was a member of the Eleventh Company at the Naval Academy and was graduated in June 1966. He served in the USS AGERHOLM on patrol off Vietnam prior to flight training. Attached to the Training Squadron 21 based at Kingsville, he was undergoing training in the Advanced Training Command at the time of the accident. Lt. Williams was both awarded his wings and promoted to the rank of lieutenant, posthumously.

He is survived by his widow Suzanne of 5018 Santa Cruz Ave., San Diego, Ca. 92107; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Williams of 1223 Park Circle, Las Vegas, Nv. 89102, and a brother Mark Williams. He is buried in San Diego.
