Myron Boyd Sutton

California lost her greatest press agent when Mike came to the Academy. With his easy manner and disarming grin, he made many friends. His high forehead, the butt of many good-natured jokes, hid an adept brain, for when the studies were toughest Mike would be boning Cosmo. He toiled many hours on the extra duty and football squads; during weekends not supervised by the Executive Department, he always dragged queens that rivaled Hollywood’s best. Mike’s stories were always welcome and a party was incomplete without him. His superb confidence in himself was shared by all; Mike will be in there leading us when the going is the hardest.

The Class of 1944 was graduated in June 1943 due to World War II. The entirety of 2nd class (junior) year was removed from the curriculum.

Loss

Myron was lost on September 17, 1946 when his torpedo plane collided with another over the Mediterranean Sea. A radioman — it’s not clear which plane he was aboard — was also lost. The aircraft were flying from USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV 42). He was survived by his parents.

Myron graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1937. Succeeds on the lightweight football team. Striving to become a doctor of medicine. Outstanding as a chemistry student.

He attended UCLA for two years and was a member of Phi Beta Delta, Naval R.O.T.C., and frosh crew.

He has a memory marker in Tunis, Tunisia.
