James Paul Borsic

“The Dealer”, hailed from that roaring metropolis of Poland, Ohio. Jim attended Ursuline High School and, while there, made quite a name in both the academic and athletic fields. It was through his athletic prowess that he first came into contact with USNA. When Jim got to the Academy, his easygoing way did not quite fit in with the system, so he decided to let it adapt itself to him. Not being satisfied with playing only plebe football, Jim also tried his hand at wrestling. Those who knew Jimbo will always remember him as a fine athlete, a million laughs, true friend but, above all, one of the boys.

Shipmate

From the May 1967 issue of Shipmate:

Lt. James P. Borsic, USN, died on 29 March [1967] when the helicopter he was piloting in a training flight off USS ESSEX crashed in the Atlantic Ocean off Quonset Point, R.I. Memorial services for him and two other men lost in the accident were held at Quonset Point Naval Air Station Chapel on 1 April.

Lt. Borsic was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended Ursuline Catholic High School before entering the Naval Academy, from where he was graduated in 1962. He completed helicopter flight training and was designated a naval aviator in January 1964.

Following the completion of replacement pilot training in HS-1 at Key West, Fla., Lt. Borsic reported to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron 9 at Quonset Point where he held successive duties as First Lieutenant, Ground Training Officer, and Aircraft Division Officer. He was designated a plane commander in the SH3A helicopter in August 1965.

He is survived by his widow JoAnn, presently residing at 620 D Forrestal Ave., Quonset Point, R. I. 02819; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Borsic of 806 Struthers Road, Poland, Ohio; a brother, Michael Stephen, and two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Geidner and Mrs. Katherine Heffinger.

He has a memorial in Arlington National Cemetery.
