Loss
Arthur was lost when USS Lagarto (SS 371) was sunk by a Japanese surface ship on May 4, 1945 in the Gulf of Siam.

Arthur was one of 29 graduates from Kingswood School, West Hartford, in 1938. The accident referred to in his yearbook (below) was reported by the Hartford Courant on September 29, 1937. “An automobile operated by Arthur H. Keeney, Jr., 17, of 88 Church Street, Manchester, was badly damaged Tuesday at 6 p.m., when it skidded on Steele Road and smashed into a tree. Keeney was not injured. Sergeant Daniel Donaghue, who investigated, made no arrest.”
He married Margaret French on November 13, 1942, in Minden, Nevada. Their son was born on March 1, 1944. He became President of the East Carolina Bank in Engelhard, North Carolina.
Arthur’s father was a bank teller; his mother was Charlotte.
His wife, Margaret French Keeney, was listed as next of kin. They had a son, Arthur H. Keeney, III. Arthur Jr. has a memory marker in Connecticut.
