Albert was lost on June 17, 1969 when the aircraft he was piloting crashed near Naval Air Station Lemoore, California.

Lt. Albert O. Jones, USN. died on 17 June as the result of an aircraft accident at Lemoore, Calif. Services were held in Fort Myer Chapel, followed by interment in Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors.
Lt. Jones was born in Annapolis and attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School at Bainbridge. While attending the Naval Academy he was a member of the Twenty-second Company and of the varsity wrestling team; he was graduated in June 1965. Following flight training at Pensacola, Lt. Jones flew 135 missions off the USS RANGER over Vietnam. A plank owner of Attack Squadron 147, Lt. Jones was recently selected for the Astronaut Program.
Survivors include his widow Judie and daughter Kellie Lee of 129 Tiger St., NAS, Lemoore, Calif. 93245; his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Albert Jones of Shady Side, Md. 20867; brothers David and Boyd. a sister Jean, and his maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. C. Edward Leatherbury, all of Shady Side.
He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
