Loss
Ronald was lost when the patrol bomber he was aboard crashed into a mountain near Half Moon Bay, California, on June 1, 1942. He was a member of Patrol Squadron (VP) 43. The August, 1942 Shipmate issue reported that in 1942 he had been “called to duty, as a Seaman 1/c, USNR, at Quonset Point, R. I., where he took up aviation duties.”

His father was Charles (grocery store sales), mother Delia, brother Dr. Charles Kenneth McLean.
He was stationed at Receiving Station Boston and Quonset Point, Rhode Island in 1941 - then Lakehurst, New Jersey and Alameda, California in 1942. Enlisted 10/31/1940.
At the Naval Academy he was a member of both the Glee Club and the Choir.
He is buried in Massachusetts.
