Loss
Maurice died on January 6, 1954 at the Brooke Army Hospital, Texas, “as a result of a plane crash on November 5, 1953 at Luke AFB, near Phoenix, Arizona.” (From April 1954 issue of Shipmate.) He was a member of the 443rd Fighter-Interceptor Squadron.

Maurice (middle name Italo) graduated from East High in 1947 and attended the University of Wichita for one year where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Gamma. He was appointed to the Naval Academy by Congressman Ed H. Rees. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament parish.
He married Mary Merritt in June 1952.
He was additionally survived by his parents, Lawrence and Alice; sisters Martha and Anita, and brothers Melvin and Lawrence. His father was a manager for a wholesale creamery in 1940. In Maurice’s year at the University of Wichita, also attending were his sisters Martha and Anita, and brother Lawrence.
Maurice is buried in Kansas. He was survived by his wife and 6-month-old daughter, Mary Gwyn, who were living in Wichita, Kansas.
