Loss
Alan was lost on November 4, 1960 when the plane he was piloting crashed at Enid, Oklahoma. He was “an instructor at the Air Force Jet Training Base.” (Information from January 1961 issue of Shipmate; he was included in the ‘27 column because his father, Jack, was a member of that class.)

Born in Panama, Alan graduated in 1950 from St. Peter’s School in Peekskill, New York. He attended George Washington University for one year.
In September 1950, Alan and his father lived in Hillsboro, Texas, and visited the Washington, D. C. office of their congressman.
During his summer cruise in 1952, Alan was aboard the destroyer Waldron.
He was survived by his parents Navy Captain and Mrs. Jack H. Lewis, a brother Reilly, and a sister Mrs. Charles F. Purvis, Jr.
Alan is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
